If you’re looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, and very skilled craftsman in the art of rug repair, Mehmet Solak fulfills all these important qualities. Born in Turkey, he grew up in a culture and tradition specializing in woven and handcrafted rugs and kilims. In fact, several of his family members are all professional weavers of beautiful carpets and kilims.
Mehmet and family arrived in Seattle in 2007 from their hometown of Sultan Han in central Turkey, long a center of rug making and repair. The main goal was to create a new life and future for their children. And Mehmet’s dream was to continue working in his very specialized profession, the art of rug repair.
Mehmet began his 28-year career in the carpet industry at age 14, working in his cousin’s rug shop. He indicates it is very important to learn all about rugs and kilims beginning at a very early age. After spending five years in Istanbul, learning as much as possible about the rug and kilim industry, he returned to his hometown, married, and opened his own rug repair shop. He had become an expert in all aspects of the creation of rugs, how to dye the wool used (often using vegetable dyes), and how to skillfully bring a damaged rug to its original state. His favorite rugs are from Central Anatolia, and repairing rugs brings him a lot of personal and professional satisfaction. Mehmet finds it gratifying to bring a damaged or torn carpet to a beautifully restored state and condition.
After nine years in Seattle, unlike many others, Mehmet doesn’t mind the rain, and he appreciates the beauty of the Pacific Northwest as well as the friendliness of those who live here. Mehmet can repair any carpet, no matter how small or large. He is trustworthy and dependable and guarantees his work 100%.
Give him a call and he will work closely with you to restore your carpet to its original condition.
